Queen Elizabeth National Park is the country’s second largest national park, straddling in Western Uganda. It is well-known for its diverse eco-systems making it one of the best Uganda safari parks. This 1978sq.kms protected area is popular for its huge concentration of elephants, buffaloes, over 620 bird species including the shoebill stork; warthogs, antelopes, primates like the red tailed monkeys, lions including the tree climbing lions in Ishasha area, hippos, crocodiles.
Queen Elizabeth National Park was gazetted in 1954 and today, it is ideal for game drives, boat cruise along Kazinga Channel, lion tracking experience, chimpanzee tracking, nature walk, birding and a lot more.
The park derives her name from the Kidepo valley.In the indigenous community dialect, kidepo loosely translates "to pick" from under.The Kidepo valley is famous for scenic borassus palm trees; a delicacy of elephants as well as indigenous communities, that are beautifully scattered all through the valley and the name kidepo was coined from the many communities who wander into the valley to pick fallen ripened borassus palm fruits for domestic use during the dry seasons.

Kidepo valley national park is an Important Birding Safaris Area in Uganda with close to 450 bird species and a dream Uganda tour destination for bird watching expeditions. A dozen out of the 50 birds of prey species in Uganda are endemic in the Karamoja region.
The common animals include Elephants, Zebra, red river hog, Rothschild Giraffes, Eland, Jackson's Hartebeest, Buffalo, Oribi, Lion, Leopard, Spotted Hyena, Black-backed and Side-backed Jackal. Kidepo is the best park in Africa for great buffalo herds!!
